Dealbreakers

Dealbreakers: after a few dates you find out that they ________ = no more dates.

Welcome to a semi-interactive post. This is a compilation of dealbreakers that some of my friends came up with even if most are written in first person.  I asked via twitter and brought it up at dinners and asked for people’s responses.  Below is  a nice variety of some of the responses I received and if you feel like it, what are some of your dealbreakers?

Big love for MK who went way beyond what I was asking for and actually sent me a facebook message with his dealbreakers. I won’t give away his whole name, but if you date him, maybe you can make his dealbreakers into dealmakers (especially the last one, kinda harsh!)!

Animal lady is no good either.

1. Cats, too many cats! You can like cats, but I don’t think you are allowed to have them (ok, maybe one lingering outside your house). But do not be dubbed as cat-lady or even be known as a cat-man. gross.

2. Smoking. No one likes to kiss an ashtray. gross.

3. Cake face aka no one likes to see the ski lines in the powder aka most people do not have a two-toned colored neck aka do not wear a lot of make up.

4. If they do not drink because of religious reasons. Makes you kind of prudish.

5. if you find out they (girls) have balls. HUGE dealbreaker…. – BM

6. Hygiene, subcategory teeth brushing. apparently there are some that don’t brush their teeth. How come you don’t brush your teeth?

7. Not being athletic/not like outdoor activities. Examples that were mentioned: biking, fishing, climbing.  At first I was kind of against this because you can do these things with friends, but I know a lot of couples that enjoy sports/outdoor activities together. And future husband, I would hope you would like doing outdoor activities with me.

8. No close girlfriends. For me it shows 2 things. It shows a) she is a huge flirt and b) she doesn’t understand the concept of homies at all. Personally i’m not a fan of a girl who is super flirty, and I don’t imagine most are, as most guys are the jealous type and have their own insecurities. And so the concept of dudes having to have time to hang out with their homies is pretty important. And if the girl doesn’t/can’t understand it because they have no close friends of their own, DEAL…..wait for it……..BREEEEAAAAAAKER!!! - MK, the edited version

This seems to work well for the Cruise's (and not vying to be his wife)

9. Girl taller than boy/Boy smaller than girl. That’s pretty legit. Me, dating a person smaller than me?!  :/

10. No Independence. If a guy cannot make it on their own in a new setting and clings to their significant other = outlook not so good. When introducing a new guy to the group, we want to know that the guy can hold their own and be friends with our friends without having to really make an effort in including them. Shyness is one thing, but not trying at all is another.

11. Bad friends and/or family. Your friends and family could be my friends and family. I don’t want to not want to hang out with you because you have weirdo or crazy friends.

12. Baking. Now all in all, baking is not bad at all. I love pastries as much as the next person, but when a girl LOVES baking, there’s something wrong there. Since the obvious next question is why, the answer to that is because baking shows that she is very boring. If she cooks, she shows a sign of creativity and originality, because you have to season things and create things until they taste good. But with baking, it shows all you know how to do is follow instructions and not stray from that. So hopefully you don’t get me wrong and think i will never go for a girl who bakes. Because i know most, if not all do. But if she LOVES LOVES LOVES to bake, then that is a dealbreaker right there. - MK
